The legendary route over the passes from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean takes in the Haute-Garonne via some of the world-famous passes: Menté, Portet d'Aspet, etc. Travel by bike on these routes, where majestic views are the order of the day and the sporting character is on the agenda! This is the second part of the walk that began at Port de Balès (see *Chemins de la Liberté*: *Opus No. 1*), from Portet-de-Luchon to Les Granges d’Astau. It is an easy walk and can be undertaken as a continuation of the first part. The suggested route follows the path taken by André Bon, and occasionally runs along tarmac roads. You’ll be walking in the footsteps of André Bon. This escapee was taken to Saléchan station via Toulouse thanks to the ‘Françoise’ resistance network, an early ‘helper’ who played a part in the escape of at least 700 people. Like André Bon, who made it all the way to Benasque in Spain, thousands braved the dangers of the mountains in the hope of finding freedom beyond the peaks of the Pyrenees. A perilous and gruelling human endeavour, this arduous crossing claimed the lives of more than 2,200 people, victims of the mountains or of Nazi troops. Trail accessible in winter. Hiking in the Larboust valley. Pass through the villages and admire the local mountain architecture. Recognisable by the cross on top of this erratic boulder, this walk offers a panoramic view of the Larboust valley. Depart from the car park at the entrance to Portet-de-Luchon, follow the road towards Poubeau, then follow the signs for Labach de Cathervielle. Cross the road to reach La Moraine, then take the Portet-de-Luchon path.

Trail accessible in winter. Magnificent balcony path offering views of the high mountains and valleys. An ideal place to take in the scenery. Start from the car park at the entrance to Portet-de-Luchon, turn right behind the church, then follow the signs to Jurvielle, then Labach de Cathervielle until you reach Cathervielle. Cross the road to reach the Moraine de Garin, then take the Portet-de-Luchon path.

Dogs not allowed. Road closed from 30/11 to 15/04, path inaccessible. You'll be overlooking the splendid Oueil valley. A must in autumn during the stag roaring season and for the multicoloured, shimmering colours of the forest! The start is just after the junction of Bourg d'Oueil and Port de Balès, towards Cirès. Then follow the GRP signs to reach Lake Paloumères, Port de Pierrefitte and descend to the village of Bourg d'Oueil.

Enduro - Altitude: max 2159m/mini 1583m. This bike park-style route will give you the impression of literally plunging into this wild valley. Traced through mountain pastures on a long ridge, with a beautiful viewpoint. The route starts at the top of the Cap de Palès chairlift.

Enduro – Altitude: max 2,175 m / min 1,585 m. It’s a beautiful, well-rounded descent: panoramic views, flow, technical sections and elevation changes, with a real mountain atmosphere. Designed for riders with some prior riding experience, it offers a smooth route punctuated by banked bends, undulating terrain and fast-flowing sections. The route starts at the top of the Lac chairlift.

Enduro – Altitude: max 1,740 m / min 1,670 m. This route is a slightly more challenging variation on a section of the PLB Blue Wave. It allows you to get a safe introduction to a more challenging style of downhill riding over a few bends before tackling more demanding routes.

X Country - Altitude: max 1870m/mini 1241m. Pedal through the heart of the authentic Vallée d'Oueil, with its sweeping panoramas and mythical Port de Balès. You'll finish with a sensational descent that will make you forget what you've sweated. A physically demanding but technically easy climb on a 4x4 track to Lake Paloumères. This is followed by a trail ride, passing through the famous Port de Balès. Another trail takes you to Port de Pierreffite and, as a grand finale, you finish with a technical but thrilling descent.

Tapped by a gallery, it supplies the Oô hydroelectric power station in Luchon. Its name is particularly well known to cruciverbists. A popular destination for Pyrenean hikers, one of the attractions is its 275m-high waterfall.
