
Laon was the birthplace of a woman whose life is worthy of a novel: the first female surgeon, a pioneer of cosmetic surgery, a doctor for the Gueules cassées of the Great War, an ardent campaigner for women's rights... Suzanne Noël (1878-1954) lived a thousand lives in one. This walk, in the upper town, takes you on a journey through her first life, that of her childhood in Laon, which had a decisive influence on her destiny.
This walk was devised by the fledgling Laon-based association ‘Suzanne Noël: Chirurgienne, Féministe, Laonnoise’, whose aim is to promote the memory of this little-known Laonnoise.
