The Camargue environments are very strongly marked by salt and only the banks of the river and its alluvial ridges escape this influence and develop much more luxuriant vegetation. This wood, which we call ripisylve, includes white poplars, ash trees and elms. The banks of the river are colonized by amorphous, bulrushes, reeds and marsh irises. This environment is also home to many species of birds and mammals that find refuge there.
This quadrangular tower 15m high and 9.65m wide was built with white limestone from the Beaucaire or Fontvieille quarries, which arrived by boat. The Tower is built on two levels, surmounted by a fortified terrace with a crenellated parapet. Built in 1737 on the banks of the Rhône, its visit allows you to appreciate the largest ornithological collection in the Camargue, temporary exhibitions and a breathtaking 360 ° view of the mouth of the Rhône, the Saint Louis canal, the City and the salt marshes.
