Description

An azure-blue lake reflecting the snow-capped peaks, the sound of tarine bells brightening up a truly mountain atmosphere: you're in the heart of the Vanoise, isolated from the world, a place where contemplation is a must!

Setting out on a trail to reach a high-altitude lake is always an end in itself, but here the route is also part of the "journey".

Starting from the grass-covered Rosuel refuge, on this mythical GR5, imagine huge rocky escarpments where you can make out man-made paths cut right into the rock.

Admire the many waterfalls along the way. Smell the tarine cows tasting the fresh green grass that makes for exceptional alpine Beaufort.

Leap like a capri over the meandering streams that feed the Ponturin. After gently crossing the numerous peat bogs, reach the Lac de La Plagne, in the heart of the Parc National de la Vanoise, where rainbow trout fishing is a must.

The refuge Entre le Lac, a former sheepfold converted in 1980, is there waiting for you. It's here, right next to the lake, that you'll spend the night.

The next day, after bubbling at the water's edge or frolicking with the marmots, you'll set off on the return journey to the other side of the Ponturin, passing alpine chalets and crossing streams along the way. You're sure to want to come back...

If you're looking for a family adventure with a donkey, check with Francis, the muleteer, before you set off.

Entre Le Lac mountain hut

Located in the heart of the Parc de la Vanoise in an old sheepfold converted into a refuge, at an altitude of 2145m, it benefits from a protected environment in the heart of the alpine fauna and flora allowing the observation of large mammals and birds of prey. The refuge is privately run. It is located on the "Tarentaise" side of the Vanoise National Park, on the GR5, at the edge of the PLagne lake, source of the Ponthurin. You will go up between the Mont-Pourri massif, its glaciers and the waterfalls that flow down from it, and the Aliet massif. The GR 5 passes 10 minutes from the refuge and links it to the Col du Palet and Tignes. The refuge is open and guarded permanently from mid-June to mid-September. (no winter refuge). How to get there : - from Peisey-Nancroix and the Parc de Rosuel refuge-gate (car parks, shuttles from Landry - SNCF station and Peisey, refuge, catering, via ferrata), in 2h30 (average time) of walking on a good path on the left or right bank of the Ponthurin, - from Les Arcs and the Mont Pourri refuge (two hours), - from Tignes-le-Lac (3 hours via the Col du Palet refuge), - from the Martin refuge (via the Col de la Sachette or the Tourne), - from the Champagny-en-Vanoise valley (4 hours from the Plaisance refuge via the Plan Séry pass or the Aimes pass). This refuge has a capacity of 40 people and belongs to the commune of Landry. Francis, the muleteer, also offers you his donkeys for hire for your walks. Contact him, 2 km before the Rosuel car park. NB: Dogs, kept on a lead, are allowed from Rosuel to the refuge (but not beyond), provided they climb up the left bank of the Ponthurin. The refuge is ideally situated for mountain fishing enthusiasts, on the banks of the Lac de la Plagne, a beautiful torrent, ideal for fly fishing or fishing for trout and salmon. The hut is a depository for the day fishing cards of the Société de la Gaule de l'Ormente. Fishing is open on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and public holidays; fishing for dead or live fish is prohibited. Rates are different for holders of a fishing permit or not. Open from 19 June to 18 September 2022.

Departure point: Refuge de Rosuel 1/ DAY 1: from "Refuge de Rosuel" to "Refuge d'Entre Le Lac" / Duration: 2h45 / Ascent: + 600 m / From Rosuel, follow the well-marked path (GR5) straight south, which rises steadily through a vast alder grove to the passage de la Rèbe (wooden platform). The path continues its steady progress through the characteristic glacial lock, then crosses an area of small limestone boulders. At the intersection, leave the GR5 and turn right. The path overlooks the meandering Ponthurin: a virtually flat section. The lake will appear at the last moment. There are plenty of places to enjoy a picnic. Continue to the Entre Le Lac refuge.

2/ DAY 2: from "Refuge d'Entre le Lac" to "Refuge de Rosuel / Time: 2h15 / Ascent: + 180 m and -775 m / From the refuge, head towards Plan de la Grassaz. Descend towards the Cabane des Mindières and then the Chalets de La Plagne. The route continues along the Ponturin until the next junction, where you turn right, then left to reach the Refuge de Rosuel. Note: as this is on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, if you have a dog, be sure to stay on the left bank. You are allowed to go as far as the Entre-le-lac refuge, but no further.
