La Combe des Fours

Combe des Fours Cordon Sallanches
Credit : Cordon Tourisme

Description

A day's hike for very good walkers, starting from the Cochenet - le pont de la Flée parking lot, for a very special atmosphere in the very green combe with its fine alpine meadow...

Access: park at the Cochenet (or Plagne d'en Haut 1024 m) parking lot in the direction of Pont de la Flée (1060m).
Allow a full day's hiking
From Pont de la Flée, continue steeply uphill to reach Pierre Fendue.
Follow the path to the right, towards Mayère, and cross the bridge over the Torrent des Fours. Leave the Mayère path and take the left-hand path towards Les Fours. The climb becomes steeper, then the path passes the foot of rocky bars and can be quite impressive. It then weaves its way between large boulders, where a few chains can help it along.
When you reach the Combe des Fours, cross the torrent des Fours and follow the more or less marked path to the Gouille des Fours.
After a short climb, continue along the combe to the Col de Portette, where, if you're lucky, you'll be able to admire the lammergeiers.
Begin the return journey on the path below the Col de Portette, and after the steep switchbacks, rejoin the 4x4 track and follow it to the Chalets de Coeur. You reach the Pierre Fendue, the Flée bridge and then the Cochenet parking lot.
