The Fourneau St-Michel is a remarkable architectural ensemble in the heart of the Ardennes forest. It is dedicated to the architecture and way of life of the Ardennes of yesteryear. A museum and buildings also testify to the iron industry in the 18th century. Houses, farms, a school and a chapel were transferred to a park with great scientific rigour to testify to the traditional rural architecture of southern Wallonia. An exceptional blast furnace from the 18th century bears witness to the early iron and steel industry. It was built by the last abbot of St-Hubert, Dom Nicolas Spirlet. You can also enjoy the recreational and culinary aspects of this rejuvenating site, as there is a playground at the heart of the estate. The site is also of undeniable importance for the flora and fauna of our region, with a wide variety of species.

From Redu, just before Lesse, a small road on the leftFramed by two venerable lime trees, this 1750s chapel overlooks the hamlet of Lesse. It is under the protection of Notre-Dame de Walcourt and was reportedly the scene of some miraculous events. A pilgrimage to Saint Monon - who has a statue there - was long organised there for the protection of livestock, especially pigs.

Thousands of bells were cast there. Between 1955 and 1960, it employed 35 workers. This classical building is distinguished by its elegance and simplicity. It contains rich 18th century furniture. The Romanesque baptismal font dates from the 7th century. A path of the seven sorrows of the Virgin Mary illustrated by the famous Belgian cartoonist Jijé, leads to the 18th-century chapel of Our Lady of Haurt. This building was erected on top of a hill. Legend has it that a statue of the Virgin was found there and taken to the church in Bure. property). The history of the village is intimately linked to the history of its castle. The castle was the seat of a high seigniory that was under the jurisdiction of the feudal court of the La Roche County. Henri de Wellin, Lord of Grune, Crupet and Masbourg, is the first Lord ever mentioned in a 1290 document. The castle was surrounded by ditches until the beginning of the 19th century. The building forms a quadrilateral shape; it is composed of a seigniorial dwelling and a farm that has fallen into ruin. The house was built in 1613 by Gilles de Mozet, Lord of Grune. In 1851, it was restored by Th. Pety de Thozée. In 1894, it was restored a second time round by the Count Maurice de Ramaix. This event is commemorated by a stone bearing his arms and motto sealed into the back of the building. The farm dates from the early 18th century and the portal exterior is topped with a stone bearing the arms of the Mozet-Waha family. The castle suffered greatly during the First World War. It was almost entirely burnt down, and the building was (partially) restored in 1946.

The Saint-Monon collegiate church, its ancient churchyard and picturesque lane of linden trees planted in 1803, have all been listed by the Royal Commission for Sites and Monuments. The church underwent restoration works in 1948-49 and, according to the chronogram above the entrance porch, the current building dates from 1661. The choir and the apse are built in typical 7th century Romanesque styleand the church nave was rebuilt in 1661.An educational board near the church entrance tells the story of the Holy Monon, a Scottish Monk whocame to Nassogne to evangelize our ancestors around 600. Inside the church, you can admirethe reliquary which contains the holy relics. Saint Monon is the Patron Saint of farmers who invokehis protection for their cattle and their crops. Each year (on the Sunday following Ascension), the reliquary is taken from the collegial church to the Saint-Monon chapel, during the procession that is locally known as the Procession des Remuages (i.e. ‘the riddling procession’). During the procession, the pilgrims, for the vast majority farmers, rub the shrine with handfuls of grass or shrub branches. The blessed crops are then fed to their livestock, in the hope that this will protectthem from harm until the following year.
