Located in the little village of Hombourg, the « Brasserie du Grain d’Orge » (Barley Grain Brewery), a micro-brewery turned small brewery, specialises in the production of exclusive beers (Extra, Schaesberg, Pré Messire, Inkelsbeer,…). The eight main beers brewed by Grain d’Orge are the Brice, the Joup, the Canaille, the Aubel Dubbel and Tripel, the Aubel Pure, the Grelotte and The Pom. Aubel is a charming village in the shadow of the Pays de Herve orchards. It is home to the Val-Dieu Abbey and a weekly market every Sunday in the centre of the village.

The meeting point of Belgium, Holland and Germany (and also from 1839 to 1919 the ancient territory of Neutral Moresnet – today La Calamine), the three boundary stones found here are only symbolic and are situated in Dutch territory.The neighbouring forests have an impressive network of footpaths.Delight in the fauna and flora for hours and hours. All the walks are signposted and each ones take the form of a 5 km trail while respecting the colours: red, block, yellow.

Surrounded by enclosed expanses of pastureland, the village stands at the summit of a promontory which dominates the church. The use of brick for the walls, slate for the saddleback roofs and stone for the frameworks of the windows and the right-angle quoins characterise the architecture of the whole village.To break up the simplicity of the buildings, decorative research has been applied to the slates. Windvanes dominate the roofs and bear witness to an art of ironwork brilliantly executed. The local history museum was opened in 1999. Located in an ancient farrier’s forge dating from 1638 in the centre of the village of Moresnet, it shows the history, old professions and different aspects of the cultural and social life of Moresnet and its region. A permanent exhibition traces the turbulent history of the railway viaduct since its construction in 1914, through its successive destructions during the Second World War, until its renovation completed in 2004. Two other rooms house themed exhibitions. This year, 2010, they are the « old professions » (carpenter, clog maker, blacksmith, shoemaker and butcher) and « housing in the 1950s ».

This building is one of the oldest in the community. Its construction has been dated to the winter of 1644-1645. The facades and the roof were listed in 1982. The restoration has meant that a large part of the original half timbered walls has been preserved. Those in very poor condition were replaced using the same materials but with modern techniques. The contemporary touches are clearly visible. The project has been carried out using environmentally friendly construction methods and taking into account the needs of a sustainable development. In this house of 17th century, discover a small museum recalling the history of Plombières and its natural reserve which accomodates rare plants pushing on grounds nouveau riches out of metals.Also take advantage of the adjacent recreational, sports, entertainment and leisure area open to a public of all ages.
