At the top of the Charamillon gondola, leave the intermediate station on the left, go past the bottom of the ski lift, cross the Charamillon torrent: climb to the right in a large alpine combe amid rhododendrons to reach the pass near the Sources de l'Arve. The chairlift station is on the right.

The Col de Balme is located on the border between France and Switzerland, between the Chamonix Valley and the Trient Valley. It culminates at 2 191 m.In summer, the Col de Balme is used by many hikers doing the Tour du Mont-Blanc. This pass is directly accessible on foot from the village of Le Tour, or via the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc ski lifts, which are open in summer for hiking.
The Vallorcine cable car takes you to 2270m between the French and Swiss side of the mountain.
