The ultimate hike. Originally named Lac de Seculego, it is known to crossword enthusiasts and for its superb waterfall. It is the most accessible lake in the Luchonnais region, with a depth of 70 metres, ideal for a family hike.
Start just after the restaurants on a wide track in the forest, pass the sulphur rock and follow path no. 41 which climbs up to Lac d'Oô and the guarded refuge where you can satisfy your hunger and thirst!
Please note that swimming is not permitted in the mountain lakes. This hike is not recommended in winter as some sections may be icy and there are avalanche corridors.
1 - From the barns at Astau, walk past the restaurants and take the track climbing up in front of you, marked with the colours of the GR10 (white and red) and no. 41. Cross the ford and then the barrier. The path is not difficult and the route is obvious.
2 - As you pass, admire the Madeleine waterfall on your right and then the sulphurous rock (1,300 m). Higher up, at an intersection, continue along the path, which becomes stony, on your left. Admire the view towards the Astau valley.
3 - A few minutes later, after a short descent, you will see the small stone bridge (1,489 m), as well as the dam and the refuge on your right.
4 - Climb up to the latter and enjoy the view of the famous 275m-high waterfall of Lake Oô.
5 - Return via the same route.
