Hike to the Carrelet refuge
Description
Discover the Carrelet refuge located in the Écrins National Park. A family destination par excellence where naturalists, mountaineers on a stopover and budding mountaineers can meet. A haven of greenery at the crossroads of the trails.
At the bottom of a rocky valley, this path goes back to the origins of the Vénéon and leads to the Carrelet plane. The greenery of this "plane" contrasts with the steep cliff of the Ailefroide which dominates the refuge with its 2000 m of vertical drop. This trail has been extensively restored by the National Park teams so that it is accessible for the enjoyment of hikers.

ITINERARY:
Take the path at the end of the village, passing in front of the mountain house. The itinerary follows the right bank of the Vénéon, crossing several secondary streams equipped with footbridges to reach the Carrelet refuge. The installation of a stone pavement on parts of the path has helped to combat the erosion caused by the passage of hikers and run-off. The return journey is via the same path.
TO SEE ON THE TRAIL :
In the alpine meadow you can see rhododendrons, gentians and many other mountain flowers. Chamois and marmots are not far away: you just have to sharpen your senses to see or hear them.
NOTES:
The refuge is located on the former alpine pasture hamlet of Plat du Carlez, a quiet and green meadow situated at the crossroads of the Vénéon valley and the Chardon valley. An ideal site to admire from the terrace the Ailefroide and the Rouies, emblematic summits of the Ecrins. Whether you are passing through during the day to taste our fresh pasta and drink a homemade juice with vitamins, or staying in our rooms for 8 to 2 people, the Carrelet refuge is ideal for a 100% natural break under the benevolent eye of the peaks. Families and mountaineers are welcome!

Départ du parking en-dessous du hameau de la Bérarde
Depuis le parking en-dessous de la Bérarde, monter dans le village en empruntant la calade. Puis longer la Maison de la montagne où l'Office de Tourisme et le Bureau des Guides vous accueillent.
Départ du sentier au bout du hameau de la Bérarde.
Traverser le village jusqu'au bout. Les panneaux indiquent le Refuge du Carrelet, Temple Ecrins et la Pilatte.
Refuge du Carrelet
Vous arrivez sur le Plan du Carrelet et au refuge du même nom. Son accès facile est idéal pour les enfants. Le sentier continue jusqu'au Refuge de Temple Ecrins ou de la Pilatte. Une boucle est possible par le Vallon du Chardon pour revenir à la Bérarde mais il faut s'assurer en amont que les passerelles soient bien en place.
