Like the 13th-century fortress which preceded it, the Château de Rixensart has a quadrilateral ground plan and a castle chapel, now a parish church. The four wings of the château were built between 1631 and 1662 and are punctuated by octagonal towers and a porchtower. However, its most distinctive feature is the colonnaded gallery consisting of depressed arches supported by Tuscan columns in white stone. The residence of the princes of Mérode is currently being restored. Building listed by RD (15-05-1964) Listed as an exceptional heritage site of Wallonia
