A steady climb from the resort of Val d'Isère will take you to the highest road pass in the Alps at 2764 m altitude.
On certain summer days, the road from Val d'Isère to the Col d’Iseran is closed to all traffic except cyclists, who get to enjoy the ascent and the scenery without having to think about cars.

The climb follows the D902. The regular start from Val d'Isère will allow you to warm up gently as you reach Le Fornet and then the big bend at Pont St Charles. The ascent then becomes more sustained and is accompanied by views of the resort and the peaks. After a quick descent to Le Mollard, you'll have to deal with the high altitude to reach the summit. You can start from Bourg Saint Maurice for an ascent of over 45 km and 2000m of vertical drop.
