The Combe de Savoie has many surprises in store for those who know how to venture there: between the ancestral vineyards that forge the landscape and the villages of the foothills, you'll be pleasantly surprised by this easy route, far from the main traffic routes.
Leaving Montmélian on the old Sarde road, you quickly and fully enter the heart of the vineyards of the Bauges foothills, where Savoie's best grape varieties are said to grow! You'll certainly want to come back to discover these passionate winegrowers and fill up your cellar a little more. At the foot of the Dent d'Arclusaz, you reach Saint-Pierre d'Albigny, where you can see the Miolans fortress dominating the entrances to the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys. Take a short break at the Lac de Carouge leisure park to recharge your batteries, before continuing on the other side of the Combe de Savoie to discover the pretty rural hamlets built high up, away from the overflowing Isère river. The road is beautiful and meanders peacefully before returning to Montmélian, where a visit to the Musée de la Vigne et du Vin (Vine and Wine Museum) will enable you to learn all you need to know about Savoie wine production.
