Cycling loop: Versant du Soleil

In a calm and welcoming site, the Versants d'Aime leisure park (also known as Macot lake) offers a range of leisure and sports activities: free supervised swimming (in the summer season), a cycle path, rafting on the Isère river, a grass area for picnics and relaxing and a playground for childrenThis 1.3 hectare lake in a lovely green setting is the perfect place for a day outing or a short stop. It is just next to the "green" trail that runs from Aime to Bourg Saint Maurice which is very popular with cyclists and skaters. Lifeguards are on duty 12 - 6pm in July and August near the sandy beach. The grassy areas around the lake have been set up for different activities: a play area for kids, sports (volleyball, basketball, petanque), barbecues, picnic tables , water walking balls... The 3 Saveurs restaurant in the park has a shady terrace on the edge of the lake.

Valezan, devenu paroisse en 1715, fait appel à un tailleur de pierre du Piémont pour construire l'église dédiée à saint François de Sales en 1727. les retables, bien que tardifs, ont conservé tout l'esprit et le mouvement de l'art baroque.Le chantier de construction est confié à Pierre-Jacquet, maitre-tailleur de pierre de la Val Sesia (Piémont). En 1808, le sculpteur Piémontais Jean-Baptiste Delponte est chargé de refaire à neuf le retable principal. Ce retable ressemble à celui de l’église voisine d’Hauteville-Gondon : ils ont beaucoup d’éléments communs, ce qui laisse penser que le sculpteur s’en soit inspiré… Le tabernacle en bois doré a été directement rapporté d'Italie par un des desservants de la paroisse et le devant d'autel est, quand à lui, en cuir repoussé et peint. Levez les yeux au ciel : une poutre de gloire, ornée d'angelots qui recueillent dans des calices le sang du Christ, située à l'entrée du chœur, complète la décoration et le message théologique du retable central.

Les Chapelles est un village qui doit directement son nom aux nombreuses chapelles qui s'y trouvent. Riche en activités et paysages, laissez-vous charmer par l'authenticité de ce village, et par son magnifique clocher à bulbe adossé au Dôme de Vaugel.Située en rive droite de l'Isère entre Bourg-Saint-Maurice et Bellentre, la commune des Chapelles est composée de multiples hameaux traditionnels : Villarivon, Fendailles, Parchet, Chevrières, Montgirod, Picolard et Couverclaz et le Chef-lieu. Véritable balcon ensoleillé sur la vallée, elle s'étage sur 2 000 mètres de dénivelé, de 800 mètres à 2 967 mètres, en son point culminant le Rognaix. Elle doit son nom à son riche passé cultuel et à ses 13 Chapelles. Son église se singularise par un clocher à bulbe adossé au Dôme de Vaugel.  Riche d’un intense passé minier, la commune est aujourd’hui tournée vers un tourisme rural.  Dotée d’un classement Natura 2000 et inscrite Z.N.I.E.F.F (une zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique) pour son caractère remarquable, cette destination est une invitation à la naturalité et au ressourcement.

How could you imagine from the outside that the walls of this little chapel were covered in paintings that, like a comic strip, told the story of the life of St. Grat, protector of the harvests? Step inside and discover this extraordinary story.Few people remember this, but when Bourg-Saint-Maurice was an almost exclusively rural commune, Vulmix, on a vast sloping ledge of the sunny side of the hill, was the largest village! It is not surprising that its chapel should be devoted to St. Grat, protector of the harvests. The small single nave, with its lancet arched vault, leads into the chancel, protected behind a solid wooden partition and featuring a decorative aspect typical of the Baroque period: an altarpiece. Its painting illustrates the saints venerated in the village, at the foot of a Madonna with Child: St. Grat, St. Guérin and St. Sébastien. The painting is flanked by twisted columns, cherub heads, scrollwork and other curves, and its message is completed by the presence of other colourful statues of these essential protectors of the flock and of men. The murals that cover the walls of the chapel were realised in around 1460 by artists with support from Duke Amédée VIII of Savoy and his son Louis. Even at this time, long before the Baroque period, images were used in support of the catechesis: the images painted here, using a technique resembling fresco, tell of the epic pilgrimage of St. Grat to the Holy Land to recover the head of St. John the Baptist and bring it to Rome. In a gesture of charity, the pope gifted the holy bishop - and his diocese of Aoste - the lower jaw from the relic! This jaw was brought back by St. Grat to his cathedral, where it has been piously preserved ever since.

The two floors devoted to permanent and unique exhibition, its unique genre in Haute-Tarentaise, now welcome visitors every day, during the opening hours of the store.The exhibition, designed for the whole family, is dedicated to Haute Tarentaise and Beaufort cheese AOP. It shows the complete cycle of production of the prince of Savoyard cheeses, the unique soil of Haute Tarentaise, its reliefs, its flora, its beautiful cows of Tarine breed, as well as the professions related to the production of Beaufort AOP. From manufacturing to refining, readings in videos, scents, sounds, images, multiple animations invite to a complete immersion in the heart of the valley and the Beaufort. Here a cow is milked; there we find ourselves in the heart of a copper tank; at the top we find ourselves in the alp, in the corridor we meet the 52 producers giving their milk to the Cooperative.
