Description
Average gradient: 6.5% – Maximum gradient: 10% – Summit altitude: 1,560 m.
The first section of this climb is the same as that of the Col de Peyresourde, which is regularly used by Tour de France riders. The road is wide and easy to ride on.
Right from the start, the D618 climbs steeply, with a rather uneven gradient at the beginning of the ascent.
The second section, starting from the village of Saint-Aventin, is more challenging, with steeper gradients.

Detailed stages
1 - From Luchon station, head towards the Col de Peyresourde by turning right at the Lionne roundabout.
2 - For 3 km, the gradient is uneven (4 to 7 per cent) until the road levels out. After that, the climb is steady until the junction with the Oueil Valley.
3 - The gradient increases, becoming significantly steeper from Garin onwards.
4 - On leaving Garin, turn left onto the D76B towards Gouaux de Larboust.
The section through and out of the village is particularly steep, with short but steep gradients of nearly 9 per cent.
5 - The road becomes more winding, with long hairpin bends.
The gradient eases off for the final kilometre before reaching the Agudes side of the Peyragudes ski resort.
