The climb up this legendary Pyrenean pass, regularly tackled by Tour de France riders, follows a wide, smooth road. With few trees along the way, the view over the villages of the Larboust Valley is superb.
Right from the start, the road climbs steeply, with a rather uneven gradient at the beginning of the ascent.
The second section, starting from the village of Saint-Aventin, is more challenging, with steeper gradients.

Detailed stages
1 - From Luchon station, head towards the Col de Peyresourde by turning right at the Lionne roundabout.
2 - For 3 km, the gradient is uneven (4–7 per cent) until the road levels out. After that, the climb is steady until the junction with the Oueil Valley.
3 - The gradient increases, becoming significantly steeper from Garin onwards.
4 - The gradient of the last 3 kilometres (which wind in hairpin bends) is 7.8 per cent.
