Saint Germain sur Morin

Un grand domaine comprenant les terres situées à Saint-Germain sont données à l’abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés à Paris, le nom de Saint- Germain apparait à cette époque au début du XIe siècle. Le village sera rattaché à la couronne de France sous le règne du roi Jean II Le Bon en 1361. Dés le début du XIIe siècle, il y avait deux moulins en fonction sur le Grand Morin, aujourd’hui ils ne sont plus en service, ils sont devenus des propriétés privées que l’on peut voir : le moulin Vieux (rue des Près) et le moulin Neuf (rue du Canal), le moulin de Misère, actuellement à l’abandon a été construit sous la Révolution, c’était une grande tannerie. À la Révolution les biens de l’abbaye : la ferme des Religieux, les deux moulins Neuf et Vieux sont vendus comme Biens Nationaux. La ligne de chemin de fer inauguré en 1902 va modifier la vie du village. Par décret en 1915, la commune change le nom de Saint-Germain-lès-Couilly en Saint-Germain-sur-Morin. L’église reconstruite au XIVe siècle a subie des restaurations au cours des siècles, elle possède des objets de culte classés : les fonds baptismaux du XIIIe, une statue en pierre de la Vierge à l’Enfant du XVe, une épitaphe funéraire du XVIIe siècle et une statue en bois de Saint-Sébastien du XVIIIe Le lavoir de Joncheroy situé ruelle des Chats a été restauré en 1992.
