Guided Tour of the Exhbition "Vivre en Savoie du Nord"

Northern Savoy’ corresponds to the three former provinces of Chablais (Thonon), Faucigny (Bonneville) and Genevois (Annecy) which, from the 16th to the 18th century, formed the north-western part of the Duchy of Savoy, which became the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1718-1720.
The harsh economy of the Alps, a cooler climate, epidemics, wars, etc. But the mountains were not an impenetrable fortress.
Based on an exhibition from the Haute-Savoie departmental archives, supplemented by the Saint-Gervais collections and loans from collectors and institutions, this exhibition bears witness to an intense cross-border economy, the movement of people, books and ideas, and the effects of the administrative modernity sought by Turin, as demonstrated by contemporary advances in cartography. It is also an opportunity to look back at the history and cartography of the Val Montjoie during this period, and to discover the cadastral plans from the recently restored Sardinian maps of Saint-Gervais.
