Description

The town takes its name from the lineage of the Marshal of France Pierre de Rohan, Lord of Frontenay, who married in 1517 his cousin Anne de Rohan. Situated on the road from Niort to La Rochelle, the town, bordered by the Courance and Guirande, is marked by a long and troubled history. From its castle and double enclosure, only a few remains remain. Today, the beautified village centre invites you to stroll in the shade of the St-Pierre church and to discover the wash houses and fountains, most of which have been restored, as real small public monuments.

To see: fortified St-Pierre church, Walnut harbour, Cultural area of the Prince Tower (library and exhibition hall), circuit of fountains and wash houses, municipal park "Le Grand Logis".
