Château et jardin de la Roche-Faton

Description

Mentioned as early as 1179, burnt down in 1417, the Château de Guy de La Rochefaton was rebuilt in the 14th and 15th centuries by Mathurin Pidoux. In the 17th century, the Vassé family endeavored to transform the castle accesses. They designed formal or "French" gardens, constructed common grounds on the sides in the place of fortified walls and set up salons in accordance with the fashions of the times. Charles Marie Auguste de Beaumont, future marquis of Autichamp, celebrated Vendée general, generalissimo of the Catholic et royal armies of Anjou and Haut-Poitou, reposes in the Saint Nicolas chapel. Guided visit of the outside.
