During a stopover in Jamioulx, Napoleon met the village priest, Jean-Nicolas Jénicot. The latter struck up a conversation with him. He impressed him so much with his intelligence that the Emperor wrote down his name in his notebook, adding that he would make him the future bishop of Tournai. The defeat of Waterloo thwarted this promise. Jean-Nicolas Jénicot is buried in the old cemetery of the little Neo-Romanesque Church of Saint-André.
