The monument to the dead of Sare is located in the central square of the village. Inaugurated on 11 September 1920, it was created by Maxime Real del Sarte, himself a war-disabled man with his left forearm amputated following a wound near Verdun on 29 January 1916, the author of the monument to the dead of Ascain.
The sculpted group "Je t'ai chercher" is a work that was exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1920 under the number 3396. The sculptor, Maxime Réal del Sarte is said to have taken as a model for the soldier lying Charles Eudes, one of his comrades who died at the front.
