Eglise Saint Laurent

Description

The church was built on the ancient castle, property of the lords of Andoins. Thanks to the beautiful renovation of the 12th century paintings done by Leornado Fortuni, the church has found its original colors. That is why we call it : the hundred colors church. These paintings refer to many episodes of Saint Laurent’s life, his arrestation by Emperor Ducius’ soldiers, his judgement, and his martyrdom. A set of 4 modern style stained glass windows are signed by the Mauméjean brothers and date from 1930.

Andoins was the seat of the second barony of Bearn and its lords were taking an important place for the Viscount court since the 11th century. The last heiress of the familly, Corisande (1555-1621), mistress of Henri IV, was a precious ally during his ascension to the throne.
