The town of Gontaud-de-Nogaret remains marked by the many conflicts that have taken place within its walls. It was looted and ravaged several times in the Middle Ages, during sieges and enemy assaults. Visit this village organized around its rich historical heritage listed as a Historical Monument: its market hall, its castle and its church.
Usually located in the centre of the village, the market hall is a very important place of life at that time. The Gontaud-de-Nogaret market is no exception to the rule: merchants and farmers meet under its wooden gallery and sell their products to the inhabitants. Originally built in the 14th century, it was rebuilt after the town burned down three centuries later. A few metres from the market hall, you will see the Romanesque church of Notre-Dame, running alongside the Renaissance castle of Gontaud-de-Nogaret and its medieval garden.
