Eglise Sainte Madeleine - Bournel

This Romanesque church in the heart of the village of Bournel, 5 kilometers from the Bastide of Villeréal, in the northern part of the Lot et Garonne, is on the old Roman road often used by pilgrims in the 12th.century, arriving from the north. Dedicated to Saint Madeleine, the sanctuary was enlarged in the 15th. Century and has an arched stone doorway surmounted with the effigy of the Saint and a bust of a pilgrim. The star-vaulting, signed by the builders and a magnificent cupola crowned with a bell-tower adorned with lattice patterned woodwork makes this a remarkable structure.
