Dominating the Séoune valley on a rocky spur 15km east of Agen, the bastide town of Puymirol was founded in 1246 by Raymond VII, Count of Toulouse. To the east, enter through the Porte de la Citadelle, noting the recently restored well. Stop off at the foirail, which hosts all the village?s major events and offers incomparable views over the valley.
Rue Royale then leads you to the central square, surrounded by houses with covered porticoes. These arcades are supported by large stone pillars. Continue on to the Porte Comtale: the most famous of the 4 feudal entrances owes its name to the passage of the Counts of Toulouse. Along the narrow streets, admire the traditional houses, the listed porch of the 13th-century church and, at the foot of the ramparts, take the covered walkway and walk around the village.
