The church dates from the 12th century. Its remarkable dimensions are probably due to the fact that it was attached to a Premonstratensian convent, La Grange Notre-Dame-de-Fonclaire, which was 1 km away, in the Lavizon valley.
In the absence of a castle nearby, it also served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the village, hence the few elements of fortification. The large round pile on the boundary between the first and second bays of the nave was probably necessary to support the weight of a tower used as a keep, as can be seen in the church of Saint-Martin de Houeillès. This tower probably had to disappear during the wars that took place in the region (Hundred Years War, or Religious War). The present triangular bell tower must have been built in the 17th century.
