The bell tower of the church of Saint-Martin dominates the village of Hontanx situated on the edge of a large pond and bordered by the vineyards of Bas-Armagnac.
Everything recalls its defensive functions. On the ground floor, a passageway formed the gateway to the old bastide founded in 1331 by the Counts of Foix- Béarn-Marsan, close to the fortified house known as "Château d'Aon". The floors of the tower are pierced with square firearm loopholes. It is surmounted by a machicolation, a wooden hourd, a gallery under the roof, and a parapet walk. Today, this structure serves as the bell tower of the church built in 1870 by the architect Ozanne in neo-Romanesque style. Inside, most of the furniture is post-reconstruction.
