Eglise Saint-Aignan

Lacquy - Eglise saint aignan (4)
Lacquy - Eglise saint aignan (3)

Description

In the heart of Lacquy, the church of Saint Aignan seems modest with its neo-Gothic bell tower and nave. However, in spite of the destruction in 1373, then during the wars of religion and its restructuring in the 19th century, it preserves very interesting vestiges of the pre-Romanesque period. Dating from the 10th century, it is characteristic of the flat chevet churches of Marsan. Its pre-Romanesque apse, which had an entrance narrowed by thick pedestals and side windows forming a lunette in the vault, now serves as a sacristy
Inside, the decoration evokes the Patron Saint of the church, bishop of Orléans in the 5th century. On the outside, the former baptismal basin is placed at the foot of the bell tower. To the south, one notices the scimitar cross with three arms carved in the same stone. The village is surrounded by bucolic ponds to be discovered on the Landes de Lacquy hiking
