Eglise Saint Jacques

Description

Listed as a Historic Monument in 1999. The Church of Saint James in Tartas is one of the best regional examples of 19th century religious art, both from the point of view of architecture and interior decoration and furnishings, an ensemble whose homogeneity is rarely achieved. In 1842, the decision was taken to rebuild a parish church in the upper town. In 1846, choice of a project in the neo-gothic style of the architect Hippolyte Durand. The construction lasted from 1849 to 1854, accompanied by the realization of a large mural decoration by the Mons painter Louis-Anselme Longa and a large order of furniture from the Bordeaux workshop Bernard Jabouin.
