At the eastern end of the old town, halfway up the hillside, the church of Saint-Aubin dominates the small valley of the Pimpine. Although the reasons for its location there remain unexplained, its ancient origins are attested by the will of Pierre de Latresne who, in 1274, asked to be buried there alongside his father.
Originally a modest Romanesque church, composed of a single nave and a narrower semicircular apse, it has undergone numerous modifications over the centuries in order to respond to the growing population of the parish, notably by adding two aisles and replacing the Romanesque sanctuary with a pentagonal apse. At present, the only witnesses of the Romanesque period are the walls of the nave, which are made of beautifully crafted materials.
