On a rocky hillside eminence, the Château de Gères overlooks the Dropt valley. At its feet, there was a Gallo-Roman road linking La Réole to Castelmoron d'Albret (former seneschal) with the sumptuous Moulin de Loubens as a bridge.
There are many traces of all eras, from the Paleolithic to the present day. For a long time, the castle was called Château de Loubens, a commune in which there are two other castles and a beautiful Romanesque church.
