The church dates from the 12th century. Its Romanesque facade and its very symmetrical architectural construction make it similar to compositions from Saintonge or Charente. The façade may also have been influenced by that of the Benedictine Abbey of Sainte-Croix de Bordeaux because it is of a plan called "Benedictine".
The small bas-relief decorating the arcatures on the right shows two figures in short robes, equipped with sticks. They are probably Saint-Jacques and a pilgrim on his way to Compostela. The architectural regularity of the facade can be seen in the chevet made up of three apses. About fifteen Romanesque capitals represent biblical scenes. The pietà and the frescoes date from the 15th century
The church has been classified as a Historical Monument since 1896.
