In the commune of Saint-Laurent-Médoc in Gironde, there's a village called Benon. It lies in the heart of the Médoc, a small village in full bloom from spring onwards, and shelters under its chestnut trees a Romanesque church built by the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem in the 12th and 13th centuries. Notre Dame de Benon, located on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, welcomes hikers in all seasons, eager to immerse themselves in the past.
It was listed as a historic monument by decree on March 21, 1972.
