The commune of Lège-Cap-Ferret has 9 oyster villages from Claouey to Cap Ferret: Le Four, les Jacquets, Petit Piquey, Grand Piquey, Piraillan, Le Canon, l'Herbe and Cap Ferret. The word "oyster farming" comes from the Latin ostrea, "oyster" and colere, "to cultivate". These huts are intended for oyster farming, the cultivation of oysters.
Since the last century, generations of parkers and fishermen have given birth to these districts and its architecture. Their integration into the site is exceptional thanks to the perfectly harmonious wooden constructions of the natural environment of the shores.
Today, the village of l'Herbe is undoubtedly the most important of these oyster-farming villages.
