Maison de Tardes

The ensemble is still called "château", notably because of the crenellation of the central tower which was added in the 19th century in the "troubadour" style. However, it is first of all a medieval fortified house with up to 5 levels, which can be spotted by an archway on the town side. Then the embellishments of the turn of the Renaissance transformed it into a private mansion with mullioned windows and a spiral staircase justifying the construction of a hexagonal tower. The two phases of its construction bear witness to the two periods of prosperity of Saint-Macaire before and after the Hundred Years' War. This house is visible during events.
