The original building, a 12th century chapel with a nave, was devastated by the Huguenots in 1622. A bell, with an inscription from the 15th century, was preserved.
A new construction replaces the Romanesque building, but it is devastated during the Revolution. Until 1895, Couquèques belonged to the commune of Saint-Christoly, 2 km away, and had no church.
When their commune was erected, the inhabitants opened a subscription for the construction of a church to replace the completely destroyed buildings.
Each landowner donated a year's harvest and each worker a month's pay.
