Village d'Isle-Saint-Georges

Description

The village would have been an island at the time when the Garonne river had its bed between Cambes and Ayguemorte. From the 14th century, the village inherited its current name, the addition of Saint Georges being justified by the English occupation of Aquitaine. Alexandre Dumas made the village the backdrop for The Women's War.
