The church of Lugon appears in 1170 as a dependency of the abbey of Guîtres. A church on Carney Island is also mentioned at this time. It would have been engulfed by a strong tide, then rebuilt and used as an agricultural building, now disappeared. The small rubble stones laid out in bed at the base of the southern wall are the only remains of the original Romanesque church. In the 12th century, the apse was built, as well as a portal decorated with a sculpted tympanum, and the nave was enlarged. The apse is fortified in the 15th century. In 1836, the old bell tower, located in the south, is replaced by a new one, located in the west of the nave.
