Eglise Saint-Martin de Gajac

Description

Originally placed under the name of Notre-Dame, the church dates from the 11th century, with the exception of the aisle added in the 16th century. The choir, closed by a cul-de-four apse, has kept its Romanesque appearance even if the heightening of the floor in the 19th century masks the base of the pillars. A triumphal arch, one of the capitals of which is decorated with a blessing Christ, marks the entrance, and an arcature resting on 15 capitals decorated with animals and human beings delimits it. The north aisle, added because of the increase in population, is the same width as the nave. It is composed of three rib-vaulted bays and a chapel dedicated to the Virgin and star vaulted. The church is listed in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments.
