The Roquefort site occupies a promontory (a triangular-shaped Gallic oppidum) bounded by several streams: to the north-west by the Engranne and to the south-east by the Petite Engranne or Roquefort stream. The very steep slopes on either side of this oppidum made access difficult for the assailants.
A covered alley, i.e. a burial site, dates from this period. It is 14 m long and 1.40 m wide, and consists of 22 blocks and 3 tables still in place. The Roquefort property, with its 18th century castle, was bought by the Bellanger family who planted more than one hundred hectares of vines there.
