This man-made underground was discovered by children in 1863. The site was explored by Léo Drouyn, before being studied by J.J. Labrie in 1905. Labrie believed that the cavity was a cellar with several silos, both inside and outside. He describes objects from the Gallo-Roman period, notably pottery and a coin dating from the reign of Antoninus in the 2nd century. A new campaign of excavations was set up in 1983 and made it possible to determine several phases of occupation of the refuge. The first one concerns an area of silos dug in the rock, a second one coincides with periods of insecurity, during the barbarian invasions. The underground refuge can be visited by appointment.
