Construction work on the church began in the Romanesque period (12th century) and continued throughout the Middle Ages until the end of the Gothic period. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the building was enlarged and restored. The 18th century trompe-l'oeil paintings were created in 1780 by the renowned Italian painter Tomaso Tessa, who lived in Libourne. The church contains ten 19th century stained glass windows. A magnificent solid oak door separates the church from the flower room.
