This church was built in the 12th century by the Knights of the Order of the Temple. Templars, Hospitallers and the generations that followed, have preserved this witness of our history. The Commandery of Marcenais was a stopover on the roads to Santiago de Compostela. The church served as a "hospital" for pilgrims, where they found accommodation, care and a place of prayer. It also served as a means of defence during troubled times, as its fortifications bear witness.
