Between the valleys of the Dordogne and the Garonne, the Entre-deux-Mers, and in the heart of this country south-east of Bordeaux, the only high bastide in the Gironde: Monségur. Founded in 1265 by Éléonore de Provence, it has preserved the original layout of these new towns of the Middle Ages: the square with its cutlery, a glass and cast iron hall which replaced the old stone hall in the 19th century, a Languedoc style church in a corner.
In Monségur, the strolls in the "ruets" display half-timbered houses, the Governor's Tower in Gothic style. From the parapet walk overlooking the Dropt valley, you can join the towpath for a shady riverside walk. You will also discover, in the municipal archives, the Esclapot, the book containing the bastide's foundation charter, and come here for the jazz festival concerts, the 24h of swing.
