Jewel of Bordeaux vineyard, Sainte-Croix-du-Mont is located on a spur stone sheltering a cave of fossil oysters. The church overhangs the Garonne river valley, and the Sauternes region on the other bank
The parish exists since the late 12th century, as the first church. It was then a roman country church with a unique nave. Girard de Tastes added a first chapel.
Among the centuries, the growth of the population provoked an enlargement of the church. Many elements of the roman architecture disappeared in the late 19th century. Today ther is only the portal (listed) and the famous representation of tug of war.
