Description

Situated between the villages of Les Eyzies de Tayac Sireuil and Rouffignac, Mauzens et Miremont is crossed north to south by the Manaurie, a small tributary of the Vézère.

The hilltop village of Miremont is home to the majestic Fortress of Miremont, with its 12th century Romanesque keep. It owes its name to an Occitan word: "mira", meaning "look" or "mount". It majestically dominates the valley with its 13th century feudal keep overlooking the crumbling ramparts. The manors and town houses bear witness to the presence of the "Maîtres de Forges" who, in the past, ensured a metallurgical industry on the banks of the stream "Le Manaurie".

The village of Mauzens is famous for its stone quarries. Set back from the valley, the village retains the warm colours of the stone of the same name.
