Village de Saint-Geniès

Description

Between stones and lauzes, Saint-Geniès is a typical village located in the heart of the Périgord Noir near Sarlat and Montignac. You can travel back in time by discovering its church, its old castle and its old keep, its chapel, its wash-house...
The church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, of Romanesque origin, was built in the 12th century. The castle, the result of the union of two knights' houses from the 12th century, contains quality architectural elements and, together with the church, is the most beautiful ensemble covered with lauzes.
The Cheylard chapel dominates the small valley of the Chironde and offers beautiful mural paintings of the time. The remains of the keep of the 1st castle stand on a small hillock.
