Description

The Church of Saint Germain de Paris, in Rouffignac, is the jewel of the village for two reasons: on the one hand, because of the beauty of the building, classified as a historical monument in 19002, and on the other hand, as the only survivor, with two adjoining houses, of the fire of 1944, because it bears witness to its ancestral heritage; it is one of the architectural treasures of the Vallée de l'Homme territory
The Renaissance building, built in 1530 on a former Romanesque chapel, is characterised by its combination of Romanesque/Gothic styles, as illustrated by the façade and its remarkable portal. The Renaissance nave presents interior elevations of great homogeneity in their architectural treatment, and its particularity rests in particular on its pillars with engaged columns, decorated with twisted mouldings with sculpted grooves.
