"Just eight kilometres from the Lascaux caves in a valley surrounded by woodlands, the village of Saint-Amand-de-Coly is listed as one of the""Most Beautiful Villages in France"". At its centre is the most incredible fortified church of the Périgord. We owe its existence to Amand, a hermit who evangelized the region in the 6th century. An Augustinian monastery was then founded, and this impressive building began to take shape in the 12th century under the abbacy of Guillaume, the earliest known abbot. Learn all about the history of this fascinating place through an informative circuit. Historical and architectural panels are dotted around the church and ramparts, and botanical and folkloric panels can be found along the woodland path.
Families, schoolchildren and students will all appreciate the architectural and historical interest of this monument.
